Derrick Fomby (lower, left, Homewood SF 1993) passed away on Oct. 18 from cancer. Small Fry keeps Derrick and his family in our thoughts.

Homewood won the 2000 International Championship in Orlando, Fla. with a 44-38 title-game victory over the Chicago Washington Jaguars.

Tryouts for 2010 season kick off on January 2
  
  
Homewood Area Small Fry will kick off tryouts for the 2010 season on Saturday, Jan. 2 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Homewood Auditorium (Chestnut Road and Dixie Highway). Candidates must be no older than 12 as of Sept. 1, 2009 and may not be taller than 5-foot-1.
   Tryouts will continue at the Auditorium through much of January on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Homewood, which owns four Top 4 finishes at the International Tournament in Orlando, Fla. since 2000, will offer both a varsity and developmental "rookie" team.

   ORLANDO, FLA.- Ki-Jana Crawford poured in a game-high 19 points and Kendall King added a career-high 16 points to propel Homewood Area Small Fry (22-5) to a 58-50 vic
tory over Chicago Marquette Best in the third-place contest of the 41st annual International Tournament at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
  
Homewood jumped ahead 15-0 at the outset- but had to overcome an eight-point deficit in the second half. Christian Searles and Dalen Dotson each added eight points for the Vikings.
   Chicago Heights 55, Homewood 39- The Vikings rallied from a 10-point deficit for a halftime tie, but in the end couldn't overcome 20 turnovers and 12 missed free throws in the Final Four loss. Ki-Jana Crawford topped Homewood (21-5) with 12 points and six rebounds, Dalen Dotson added nine points, six rebounds and three assists, and Christian Searles finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
   Homewood 65, West Pullman Runners 52- The Vikings (21-4) avenged earlier losses of 41 points and one point to the Runners, as Matt Winkler scored the game's first points and Homewood never trailed. Ki-Jana Crawford scored 19 points and also tied a 24-year old record (Jesse James) with 20 rebounds in a single contest.
   Christian Searles added 16 points, Dalen Dotson tallied eight and Ryan Murray six for the Vikings, who were 10-for-10 from the foul line in the second half. Emmanuel Watts also ripped down five rebounds for the winners, who have prevailed in 15 of their last 16 and avenged all of their four losses.
   Homewood 51, Chicago Solo Jaguars 35- The Vikings used a 16-0 first-half command  to take command and win their 14th contest in 15 games. Ki-Jana Crawford paced a balanced attack with 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Christian Searles pitched in 10 points and Dalen Dotson had seven points and seven rebounds. Chris Austin dealt out three assists and Kendall King finished with five points.   
   Homewood 61, Chicago Robert Taylor 46- Christian Searles (19 points, 15 rebounds) paced three Vikings in double figures, while Ki-Jana Crawford notched 17 points and Dalen Dotson added 14 markers. Searles also dished out four assists, while Chris Austin finished with five points.
   The Homewood Junior Varsity posted a 2-1 record to win the consolation championship of the JV Tournament this weekend in Highwood, as the young Vikings toppled Chi-Town NBN in the title game.
